Gospel Rap Artist Pulls From Christian Roots And Makes A Splash In Industry With His Positive Rhymes
A love for God and a love for music are the two driving forces behind Gospel Rap Artist, Young Bling’s success. Born Stephen McElrath, Young Bling’s love of music began when he was just a child. “I’ve been putting together beats and writing simple lyrics since I was a kid,” says Young Bling.
An overcomer – Young Bling spent his years of his youth pushing past speech and cognitive difficulties, resulting from complications at birth. Young Bling has worked hard to hone his craft and overcome personal challenges. During that time, he also spent time in church with his family and developing his relationship with God, and also leaned into his passion for making music. Rap was one of his favorite genres to listen to. But, it was while attending church youth events that he was exposed to gospel rap, which now inspires his music.
YOUNG BLING’S TIME TO SHINE With a passion for music and heart for service, Young Bling began his relationship with Bethesda Records, behind the scenes.
“Bethesda Records invited me to join the team before I became an artist with them. Each week in our meetings, I gave a report on the top 10 gospel songs.” He also attended gospel award ceremonies as part of the team as well. And then, he got his shot at the spotlight with the release of his song,“My All” featuring Bethesda Records Gospel Recording artist, Marcie. “Marcie wrote the lyrics and also the rap, especially for me. God has made my dreams come true through Bethesda Records,” says Young Bling.
Young Bling recalls the entire experience, “I flew to California, we recorded the song, shot a video, and had a photo session to promote the song…all in one weekend.” An experience of a lifetime for the young man who never knew he’d ever have the opportunity to pursue his passion for music beyond working behind-the-scenes. Now, the possibilities are endless and don’t show any signs of slowing down at all. “Bethesda Records has allowed me to put together two things that I love – rap music and God,” beams Young Bling.
When asked about his upcoming music plans, Young Bling plays it coy. “ I don’t want to give too much away…” He then shares, “We’re already looking at several more songs. There’s a possibility that I’ll release another song in the upcoming months.” The plan is to release a multi-song EP in the Fall of 2024 under the Bethesda Records label. One thing he says he won’t be shy about is sharing his love for Christ through his music. “He gave us life. We should give Him glory, and our all.”
